As much as 1/3 of the Grizzlies may be purchased by local parties in Memphis. This means that the Grizzlies won't be able to be bought out by another NBA city!

After being named one of the worst cities for cyclists in 2008 and 2010 by Bicycling magazine, Memphis has been recognized by the publication this year as its most improved city.
Mayor A C Wharton built more than 35 miles of new bike lanes in Memphis in 2011 as part of an initiative. Perhaps the most popular new route, the Greenline, has led to a sizable increase in cycling at Shelby Farms Park.

Don't scream for ice cream in Horn Lake. Ask quietly. The DeSoto County city cited an ice cream truck vendor this week for violating its noise ordinance.
The price for loud music? It could cost the driver or his employer to the tune of up to $1,000, according to the ordinance. Under the city's noise ordinance, on the books since 1998, amplified sound should not be audible more than 30 feet from the vehicle.

The Kingdom of Sweden will be the honored country for next year's Memphis in May International Festival. It will be the first time a Scandinavian country has been honored during the 37 year history of Memphis in May.

Chisca Hotel Restoration
The Chisca Hotel is under plans to be rennovated. The Memphis City Council is hearing requests to add a 1 cent tax on every gallon of gas sold in Memphis. If approved, this tax could bring in as much as $6 Million!
Donna the Hippo Passes Away
Donna, the oldest Hippo in the world, has passed away! I am devastated because I (Liz), have not yet made it to the zoo and I want to really badly and now I have missed seeing the oldest hippo in captivity. She does leave behind her sister, Julie who is 51. The Memphis zoo does have special care in place for elderly animals and will be having a memorial for Donna.
