Chisca Hotel Restoration

The Chisca Hotel is under plans to be rennovated.  The Memphis City Council is hearing requests to add a 1 cent tax on every gallon of gas sold in Memphis.  If approved, this tax could bring in as much as $6 Million!

Donna the Hippo Passes Away

Donna, the oldest Hippo in the world, has passed away!  I am devastated because I (Liz), have not yet made it to the zoo and I want to really badly and now I have missed seeing the oldest hippo in captivity.  She does leave behind her sister, Julie who is 51.  The Memphis zoo does have special care in place for elderly animals and will be having a memorial for Donna.

CJ Gets Rejected

CJ has been happily married for quite some time but he got completely rejected at The Peabody Rooftop party last night.  He was trying to pass out free drink tickets to listeners and one lady thought he was hitting on her and completely rejected him.  Dirty look and all. CJ is now scared that his swagger had left.

Gay Relationships

CJ was fascinated (possibly mesmerized) after seeing a man in a same sex relationship pull out his partner's chair.  He had never thought about chivalry within same sex couples and wondered how that role was decided or if it was 50/50.  The morning team discussed and took calls from people within same sex relationships.

With Voting Day tomorrow August 2^nd it’s official a judge in Nashville has ruled the new Memphis Library Photo ID card cannot be used to vote in Tennessee.

Memphis spent $67,000 on a new library card system that includes a photo and requires much of the same proof needed to get the free Tennessee state Voter ID.

Mayor A C Wharton believed that means the state should accept the library card from voters. In Tennessee, in addition to being a registered voter, you will need a valid photo ID.

A recall has been announced for the 2011 Dodge Chargers used by the Memphis Police Department. The recall has to do with brake issues and many officers have been complaining of brakes going in and out.

MPD has 165 of the 2011 Dodge Chargers on the road.

General Services can not say how many are still in service. No one can confirm if any accidents involving MPD cars are connected to the recall issue.

Good news for thousands of homeowners in Northeast Shelby County. They will be getting better fire protection when a fire station reopens tomorrow on Egypt Central Road.

Over the last several months, the fire department has made lots of changes to the fire house that closed back in 1988. The renovation budget is a fraction of what it would cost to build one from the ground up.

The Egypt Central station is being reopened to serve a growing population of about 3,800 residents in Northeast Shelby County.
