DIAMONDHEAD, Miss. (AP) - The city of Diamondhead has sworn in new city workers, including police officers, court employees, and building, planning and zoning and public works departments.
The Sun Herald reports (http://bit.ly/WcO37c ) about 17 new employees started work Monday, including eight new police officers in the new city, which was incorporated in February after years of legal wrangling.
City Manager Richard Rose has said the city will initially have only a limited public works department, which will be responsible for about five miles of roads the county had maintained.
Rose also said the city plans to hire about 20 new workers in January, as the city's responsibilities will grow with the new territory.
