History groups seeking shoe donations for charity

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Two groups at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock are seeking donations of shoes to help provide footwear to people in underdeveloped countries.

A collection station is planned for Tuesday and Wednesday in the parking lot for the Jack Stephens Center at the UALR campus.

The UALR History Department and members of Phi Alpha Theta are organizing the effort, which will support the Soles4Souls international charity.

The groups say that Americans throw away 700 million pairs of shoes each year - shoes that can still be worn by millions of children and adults.
