2 construction workers die at Wacker plant

CHARLESTON, Tenn. (AP) - Two construction workers have been killed at the site of the new Wacker (VAH'-kur) Polysilicon plant in Charleston.

Bradley County Fire Chief Dewey Woody said the workers fell about 140 feet after a work platform failed late Wednesday night. There were no other injuries.

About 1,000 workers per day are employed during the construction in Bradley County.

In a company statement, Wacker Polysilicon Vice President and Site Manager Dr. Konrad Bachhuber said the company is deeply saddened by the loss of life.
