Hinds Co. employees to protest insurance cost

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - Hinds County employees plan to protest the board of supervisor's choice of a health insurance plan for the county.

Employees are being urged to make Monday's meeting to voice their concerns over a policy approved Oct. 1 that will lower their current $5,000 deductible to either $500 or $1,000 but will raise their monthly premium for a single employee by $100.

Of the five supervisors, The Clarion-Ledger reports (http://on.thec-l.com/Px7DMn ) only Supervisor and board president Robert Graham voted against the policy. He says will raise the monthly premium per single employee to $173 and to a much higher amount for employees who also insure children and spouses.

The board voted to continue the county's health insurance contract with United Healthcare.
