New pictures of what Elvis Presley Boulevard will eventually look like were released to the public in advance of its planned mid-November groundbreaking.

The multi-million-dollar revitalization project has been in the works for a while and still has five years until completion.

"Here are your tax dollars being at work," said Memphis City Councilman Harold Collins. "It's going to benefit everybody immediately and going forward for the next 40-50 years we hope."

Elvis Presley Boulevard will undergo a total redesign with better spots for pedestrians and bicyclists. There will be new roadways and nicer looking and more sturdy traffic signals.

Also part of the renovation city officials seem most proud of is a large design in the middle of the intersection at Presley and Brooks, full of colored pavement. On one side, depending on where you're going, you may see a large W in the road for Whitehaven, and of course in the other direction that flips to a big M for Memphis.

"So that you know that you're arriving somewhere, you get a sense that this is some place different," said John Cameron, city engineer.

Councilman Collins calls the Presley Boulevard upgrade a major step forward.

A groundbreaking ceremony is planned for Nov. 15 with construction to follow soon after.
