Worker who fell 5 floors dies

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - A 43-year-old construction worker who survived for nearly a week in the hospital after falling from a five-story building in Belhaven has died.

Hinds County Coroner Sharon Grisham-Stewart tells The Clarion-Ledger (http://on.thec-l.com/RMkV6H ) Stacey Andrew Washington Wednesday night at University of Mississippi Medical Center from multiple blunt force injuries associated with the fall.

Washington was admitted to UMC Oct. 12 after falling from a construction site at the Baptist Health System, located across from the Baptist Medical Center.

Washington, who was a subcontractor for Harrell Construction, was reportedly wearing a harness, which broke.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has opened an investigation into the accident.
