Lamar Co. man faces murder charge

PURVIS, Miss. (AP) - A Lamar County man is held without bond following a Wednesday night shooting that left his father dead and his brother wounded.

The Hattiesburg American reports (http://hatne.ws/TxzXJH ) 38-year-old James Vernon Steeleman is held at the Lamar County Jail on a murder charge and an aggravated domestic violence charge.

Sheriff Danny Rigel says a neighbor called to report gunshots from inside a residence a few minutes before 10 p.m. Wednesday.

When deputies arrived, Rigel says they found 65-year-old Lellis Steeleman, the suspect's father, dead from multiple gunshot wounds.

Rigel said the suspect's brother, 25-year-old Thomas Steeleman, was transported to a local medical facility for treatment of a gunshot wound to his upper torso.

He says investigators are still trying to determine motive for the shooting.
