PURVIS, Miss. (AP) - Lamar County sheriff's officials are investigating the apparent homicide of an elderly woman whose body was found Sunday.

Sheriff Danny Rigel said authorities were called to the scene on Mississippi 589, just north of the Purvis around 4 p.m.

The Hattiesburg American reports (http://hatne.ws/QBmBhn ) Rigel gave few details of the investigation, which is ongoing.

Rigel says investigators believed the suspect or suspects took the victim's car, a 1993 Buick Century.

The license plate on the car is a disabled plate, C3899.
