FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. (AP) - The 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division is casing its colors to mark the start of its upcoming deployment to Afghanistan.
The color casing ceremony is an Army tradition before a unit deploys and will be held Tuesday afternoon at the post on the Tennessee-Kentucky state line.
About 1,900 soldiers from the brigade will be deploying as security force assistance brigade to help advise Afghan security forces as NATO forces prepare to withdraw. About half the brigade's troops will remain at the installation during the deployment.
This is the brigade's second deployment to Afghanistan. The brigade deployed to eastern Afghanistan in 2010.
