Two of three people who were shot early Monday morning are dead after a drive-by shooting near a nightclub in southeast Memphis.

Memphis police said the incident unfolded at Level II nightclub at Airways and Mount Moriah and spilled out a few miles down the road at a gas station at Park and Mount Moriah.

Someone drove up and blasted a vehicle, killing the 20-year-old driver and a 20-year-old passenger, police said.

The club, which its on the second floor of a virtually vacant strip mall, has had a troubled history of deadly shootings and brawls, but Level II is not a public nuisance.

In October 2011, a man was shot inside the club. He told police a fight broke out on the dance floor and gunshots followed. Previous to that, in November 2010, five people were shot after a fight in the club's parking lot that was kicked off between rapper  Yo Gotti and OG Boo Dirty. At some point shots were fired. Police apprehended Brian Lackland for aggravated riot.

In June of 2009, a woman was shot shortly after the club closed for the night.

The Shelby county District Attorney's Office said since several of the shootings happened in the parking lot or off property near the nightclub, it's difficult to pin every crime on Level II when the crime doesn't happen inside the property.

As far as this latest shooting, the victims' identities have not been released and no arrests have been made.
