JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - Hinds County sheriff's deputies say a convicted drug offender is going back to jail after being arrested for possession of 4 pounds of marijuana and other narcotics.
Chief Deputy Chris Picou tells The Clarion-Ledger (http://on.thec-l.com/RuBFLU ) 34-year-old Alton Cooper was arrested about noon Wednesday when investigators went to his home following a tip.
Picou says deputies obtained a search warrant and recovered the marijuana, $12,261 in cash, a .357 revolver, and liquid codeine in a plastic Sprite bottle.
Cooper is charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute while in possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of codeine and violation of parole. Also seized at the residence was an assortment of electronics and two vehicles.
It was unclear whether Cooper has an attorney.
