Some good news and bad news for both Memphis and Shelby County with the state report card.

Shelby County Schools saw straight A's, for the seventh year in a row, in academic achievement. 

But for value added, which measures educational gains averaged over three years the scores were not as good.  An 'A' for math, 'C' for reading, 'B' for social studies, and 'D' for gains in science.

As for Memphis City Schools, a disappointing report card once again for academic achievement.
    A 'D' in math, and straight 'F's for reading, social studies and science.

But MCS did show improvement across the board for value added.  Which means gains have been made over the last three years.   A 'B' in math, a 'D' in reading, a 'B' in social studies and a 'C' in science are all improvements.

That's School Board Member, Chris Caldwell who says despite some gains, he is concerned about the graduation rate declining 2 points.
