MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Memphis Light, Gas and Water will be reaching out to senior citizens and physically challenged adults for a program that will keep their utilities on during the winter months even if they can't pay their bills.
WPTY-TV in Memphis reports (http://bit.ly/Q92MRI ) that the Winter Moratorium for Seniors program will protect qualified participants from having utilities disconnected due to unpaid bills.
Applicants must be current on their bills before Nov. 30 to be a participant. Seniors and those individuals with disabilities will still be required to pay their bills during the months of December, January and February, but if the customer can't pay in full, the services will not be disconnected.
Applications are available now at MLGW offices or by calling 901-544-MLGW.
