KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Knox County Sheriff's officials say a pit bull dog that was shot by an officer is recovering.

The Knoxville News Sentinel (http://bit.ly/SMJCja ) reported Officer Jeremy Wise shot the dog Monday after a man complained the dog was running loose and trying to kill his cats.

Wise wrote in his report that the dog charged him and he responded by firing one round that struck the dog in the hip. An animal control officer took the dog to a shelter, where it was recovering from its wound.

Sheriff's department spokeswoman Martha Dooley said Wise does not face discipline for shooting the dog.
