GREENWOOD, Miss. (AP) - The Greenwood City Council has voted 4-2 against seeking bids on the possible sale of the publicly owned Greenwood Leflore Hospital might be worth.

The Greenwood Commonwealth reports (http://bit.ly/YXe8JZ) that the council's decision came Wednesday. The Leflore board of supervisors voted 3-1 this week to seek proposals from potential buyers.

The 208-bed hospital is owned jointly by the city of Greenwood and Leflore County. No decision has been made to sell it, but the idea has been discussed considering changes in health care laws as well as sales of other Mississippi hospitals.

The hospital has 880 full-time employees and 199 part-time workers.

City councilman David Jordan says public opposition against the selling the hospital was strong during a September public meeting so the idea should be dropped.
