Local radio shock jock Thaddeus Matthews appeared in court for just under three minutes Friday morning, but addressed the media for nearly 20 minutes after his court appearance.
"When my grandson has to question... when he's riding around and listening to the radio and he has to question who his grandfather is because you painted this picture," says Matthews, "you want to report about me? I ain't never raped a woman. I ain't never even had to beg for none so let's hope I don't rape for some."
Matthews faces three charges related to sexual exploitation of a minor after reposting a picture of a young girl being sexually molested by an adult on his Facebook page.
"Three felonies. Here I am trying to help a child and you want to charge me?" says Matthews. "What about the individuals who went to my site or anybody else's site? It was on Instagram – hundreds of people had it. When you went to my site, you click on my site or anybody else's site, didn't you take possession?"
Memphis police did tell FOX13 News on Thursday that they are looking for the other people who reposted the same image, and that they too would face charges similar to Matthews.
Matthews is also concerned that MPD is not doing enough to find the perpetrator involved in the photo, saying, "If the police were concerned – they had the picture of the little girl before I did. There is ... hey know who sent me the picture. They haven't went after those people."
Memphis police say they began working with five other Internet Crimes Against Children units across the country after they first obtained the picture. MPD says they do have a few leads they are following that could be the potential suspect.
As for his court appearance Friday, Matthews' hearing was reset for Nov. 30.
