Johnny get your gun but you better
hurry, because supplies are becoming limited.
Not by the government, but by the laws of supply and demand.
Since President Obama was re-elected,
gun sales have risen. This actually
started before the election.
In October alone, the FBI reported an
18% increase in back ground checks done before hand gun purchases. The official numbers for November aren't out
yet but, gun shops across the country are claiming big jumps in sales.
At Classic Arms in Cordova, Jay Hill
told me he can't keep inventory. Guns, especially
semi-automatic hand guns and sporting rifles are flying off the shelves. And ammunition is becoming even more scarce. "Well, after
the election, I knew it was going to be busy.
We got on the cell phones early that morning from the house and started
ordering ammo," says Hill. "I mean,
we've been busy for the last 3 years.
Sales have ticked up. And it's
not just here. It's any gun store you go
to. Since the election, yes. It's up 30 to 40 percent. We can't get stuff. I've got people wanting 10 of this, or 10 of
that. I can't get 10. I can only get 1. So it's hard on us trying to satisfy the
customer needs right now."
But there may be more at play here
than just Democrat-induced paranoia.
President Obama has said recently
that he would like to see the renewal of the assault weapons ban. He's also a proponent of a new arms trade
treaty by the united nations to control illegal international gun trade.
This Treaty, according to the Obama Administration, is not an attempt to
take guns away from citizens but, is only meant to close the gaps in
international trade that allow illegal guns to flow back and forth across
borders.
Misinformation to the contrary is
another factor driving sales but Jay Hill told me he can't imagine the day when
Americans would allow the UN to meddle in the business of the United States to
the degree that would take guns out of the hands of law abiding citizens. "I don't think
it's going to happen because there will be civil unrest if there is."
