MEMPHIS, Tenn. (FOX13) -

A Memphis man is behind bars after police say he fired shots near Douglass Elementary School in North Memphis.

Police say they were called to the school at 1650 Ash St. North of Chelsea Monday after several calls about shots being fired.  Officers say they found Antonio Chalmers running between school buildings and firing shots.  He told officers he was shooting back at an unidentified person who he says was shooting at him.  Officers recovered a stolen handgun and a pair of gloves worn by the suspect, according to a police affidavit.

No injuries were reported in the incident, though a pregnant woman was taken to the Regional Medical Center at Memphis for evaluation after she dropped to the ground to avoid being struck.

At least two vehicles parked outside the school were struck by gunfire in the incident, according to police.

MORE:  Affidavit of Complaint

Chalmers faces several charges including reckless endangerment and unlawful possession of a weapon.

He is being held on a $15,000 bond.
