Memphis police are looking for a suspect in a sexual assault on The University of Memphis campus.
Officers say a 19-year-old female was walking in the 3600 block of Mynders on Monday when she was assaulted by an unknown white male at approximately 7:30 p.m.
The event has students, especially women, on alert. U of M Senior Engineering Student Alyssa Ozier says, "There was an event in Carpenter (Complex) with two males doing something to a young lady, so it's getting kind of scary. I imagine the whole world is getting that way."
Students on campus are not only concerned for their safety now, they're concerned that word about the incident did not come out until late Tuesday night when the assault happened on Monday night.
"There was a robbery during the day one time last week and they caught him pretty quickly, but they didn't send anything about it," says U of M Egyptology Graduate Student Megan Valentine.
Turns out MPD did not receive the sexual assault complaint until Tuesday at approximately 9 p.m. in the 500 block of Zack Curlin.
Memphis police say the suspect is still on the loose. He is a 5'8" white male, weighing approximately 180 lbs., muscular build, medium length straight brown hair and tan complexion, according to MPD. They say he was last seen wearing blue jeans with a pink and white button up shirt with his sleeves rolled up.
