A car, traveling northbound on Hacks Cross Road in Germantown, was struck by another car and eventually hit by an on-coming train after it had stopped abruptly in front of railroad tracks that had activated its railroad flashing lights.

There were no reported injuries from the Tuesday morning traffic accident, Germantown police said. The incident took place at around 9 a.m.

The car that had stopped abruptly after railroad crossing warning flashers were activated and the crossing gates began to drop, was hit by another car from behind, causing minor damage. The force of the impact forced the first car onto the railroad tracks.

The motorist exited her car while it sat on the tracks in gear. The car rolled forward onto the railroad tracks and was struck on the passenger side by the on-coming train. The car was pushed 75 feet by the train after it collided with the car, police said.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
