County Commission to vote on Wage Theft Ordinance
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (FOX13) -

There will be a big debate in the Shelby County Commission starting Monday.  A wage protection ordinance passed committee earlier today, and moves to the full commission next week.

This ordinance would give workers in unincorporated Shelby County with complaints about missing wages or under payments a resource to file that complaint without having to file a costly lawsuit.

Supporters say this new ordinance will not create any un-due burden on businesses, but there are members of the Shelby County Commission who don't like the idea of another layer of red tape for businesses.

Commissioner Terry Roland sees this as an added layer of bureaucracy that could cost the county jobs.
