MEMPHIS, Tenn. (FOX13) -

Friday's terror at a Connecticut elementary brought back haunting memories for the residents of Jonesboro, Ark.

In 1998, Westside High School was the scene of one of the nation's more memorable school shootings of that time.

Five students and one teacher were killed.

Jim Wiseman, an assistant coach at Ole Miss, was one of the teachers on duty at Westside that day.

When he heard of the tragic news out of Newtown, Conn., memories of that March 1998 day came flooding back.

Wiseman was a teacher and assistant football coach at Westside High. While the memories of the chaos are still fresh in his mind, it's not that one moment in time that haunts him most.

It's the days and weeks after the campus nightmare.

Trying to relate his own experience of the shooting with the children he was charged with educating became as difficult, if not more than helping care for the wounded in the school's court yard.

When he found out about the Connecticut shooting, he immediately felt a pit in his stomach.

Even after days of counseling, he still deals emotionally with a tragedy more than 15 years in the past.

While we immediately think of the scars the surviving children will carry with them for a lifetime, the teachers at Sandy Hook Elementary will have emotional baggage of their own.
