The City of Memphis and Shelby County says they are prepared for the winter weather headed our way overnight.

As some of you are headed back to work Wednesday after the Christmas holiday, Memphis' public works department is spending the night salting and sanding highways to help make your drive a little safer.
 
Public works will have 12 service trucks running overnight - six in the northern part of the city and six in the southern part of the city.

"One of our top priorities at this time is to help keep the citizens of Memphis informed" said Lt. Jim Logan with the Office of Emergency Management. "The City of Memphis is prepared for inclement weather, we want the citizens to be informed and prepared as well."

Memphis trucks will be out from 11 p.m. until 7 a.m.

"All of our division directors are on alert," said County Mayor Mark Luttrell, Jr. "We want to ensure citizens stay as safe as possible. Shelby County's new Emergency Operations Center at 1075 Mullins Station Road will be activated should there be large-scale power outages or roads become impassable.

"We'll be monitoring the weather throughout the evening and will be calling in staff if conditions warrant," said Bob Nations, Director of the Shelby County Office of Preparedness.

Blizzard Warnings, snow advisories and high wind advisories are in effect for the region through Wednesday morning.
