Thirty-two-year-old Charles Livingston, who was with Humes and Thorne at the time of the armed robbery, was shot and killed by police officers as he was fleeing into the nearby woods. Mr. Livingston had a handgun and turned toward the officers with it, police said.
Humes also fled into the woods with Mr. Livingston, police said.
Thorne was in a vehicle outside the fast food restaurant and sped off before police arrived.
Humes was charged with two counts aggravated robbery and two counts of aggravated assault. His bond was set at $750,000. Thorne was charged with aggravated robbery.
Court appearances are pending for Humes and Thorne.
A possible fourth suspect fleeing the McDonald's was identified by police as an innocent bystander who was inside the fast food restaurant at the time of the heist.
Homicide investigators believe that these suspects may be connected to additional business robberies that have occurred within Memphis; charges are pending further investigation.
