The Memphis Fire Department is investigating five fires set inside abandoned homes in a South Memphis neighborhood over the last few days.
"At this time our investigators are conducting a comprehensive investigation to determine what the actual cause and origin of these fires are," Memphis Fire Spokesperson Lt. Wayne Cook said.
Fire destroyed a home on Gaston Avenue early Tuesday morning. Firefighters also got a call for a fire in another vacant home blocks away.
"They (vacant homes) present a potential problem not only to our firefighters but also to the citizens of Memphis," Lt. Cook added.
Another home at the intersection of Gaston Avenue and South Fourth Street also burned down. Firefighters had the home razed because the structure was a danger to the community.
Memphis fire investigators are working the cases. They're asking anyone with information about the fires to call CrimeStoppers at 901-528-CASH.
