MEMPHIS, Tenn. (FOX13) -

Inspiring youngsters to rock out on stage and in life is the goal of "School of Rock," a class  that teaches children and teens to play just about anything by taking them from the lesson room to the stage.

The School of Rock is where you can go to learn how to play rock and roll music and learn, in a very short time before you lose interest.

"Music Theory is very important cords and scales and stuff are very important but they can sometimes drive kids away when introduced too early into their instruction," said Marc Gurley, owner and general manager of School of Rock Memphis. "So at the school of rock we get them playing their instrument as soon as possible."

So where did this great idea come from? Well, it's actually a case of life imitating art. The motion picture "School of Rock" came out in 2003 that starred Jack Black, Sarah Silverman, Joan Cusack, and Miranda Cosgrove.

The motion picture was a big hit last decade, so some pretty smart people said, "hey why not try this in real life?" And they did. Now there are more than 100 Schools of Rock across North America, Mexico and South America.

The Memphis "School of Rock" chapters have been open for 2.5 weeks and will have its grand opening Jan. 12. Children and teens 7 to 17 can sign up to attend this special music class.
