GILLETT, Ark. (AP) - The annual Coon Supper attracted a crowd of more than 100 - including the two announced candidates for governor.
The 70th Annual Gillett Farmers and Businessmen's Club's Coon Supper was held Saturday at the Gillett High School gymnasium. The event began as a fund-raiser for athletics at Gillett High School and now raises money for college scholarships.
Among those attending were Attorney General and announced Democratic gubernatorial candidate Dustin McDaniel, announced Republican gubernatorial candidate Asa Hutchinson and numerous state legislators.
Former President Bill Clinton was a frequent attendee while governor of Arkansas.
Current Gov. Mike Beebe - who is prevented by term limits from seeking re-election - did not attend.
The menu included 600 pounds of raccoon meat plus ribs, brisket, rice, sweet potatoes and cake for dessert.
