Beebe: Education, economic development key in '13

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Arkansas Gov. Mike Beebe says he will need the Legislature's help to attract "1 of the biggest" economic development projects the state has ever seen.

The Democratic governor declined to say Tuesday what project he hoped to attract to the state. He said the final details were still being worked out.

Economic Development Commission spokesman Joe Holmes says the project involves attracting a new company to invest more than $1 billion to set up new business in the state. Holmes said some of the funding for the project will come from state-backed bonds, which legislators will need to approve.

Beebe told lawmakers as they met in a joint session Tuesday that economic development and education remain his top priorities in his final regular session as governor.
