Two Memphis lawmakers are pushing for a state-funded gun buy-back program. They plan is to take cash from the criminals through court fees to fund it.

The bill, sponsored by state Senator Jim Kyle and State Representative Antonio Parkinson, was introduced this week.

Their plan is to implement a two dollar court fee that would be collected from any criminal case where a gun was used to commit a crime or any case involving illegal gun charges.

The money would then be put into a fund that would support gun buy-back programs around the state.

The sponsors say they don't know how much money would be collected, but they say it's enough to get started.

"What we're trying to do is create a funding mechanism through additional court costs on gun related crimes in order to have the resources in order to buy the guns of those who would be willing to sell them. No questions asked," explains Kyle.  

The proposed bill still has to make its way through the Nashville legislature before being signed into law.
