Before Friday night's win over Golden State, the Memphis Grizzlies helped celebrate Marine Cpl. (ret.) Melvin Gatewood, who received a free home in a giveaway from a military support organization.
He learned he won the home from an announcement during the game.
Over 17,000 in attendance cheered.
Cpl. Gatewood is a Mississippi native who served in Iraq during the War on Terror and is a Purple Heart recipient. He suffered third degree burns after an explosive device struck a Humvee he was driving. He was medically discharged from service.
Cpl. Gatewood and his wife will move into a restored three-bedroom home in Tennessee. The couple will also receive three years of family and financial mentoring.
