A four-year-old boy suffered a fatal gunshot wound Monday afternoon after a gun the child was playing with accidentally fired, police said.
The tragic accident took place at around 1:30 p.m., at the Camelot Manor Apartments in the southeast part of the city on Camelot Lane.
The child, identified Monday evening as Joshua Johnson, was pronounced deceased by first responders in a second-floor apartment.
The boy's mother, father, and grandmother were at the apartment complex but too shaken up to talk.
Questions still remain in the wake of the fatal accidental shooting. How did this 4-year-old get his hands on the gun? What type of gun was used? Where did the gun come from? Who owns the gun? Where were the adults to supervise him?
Police spokeswoman Sgt. Karen Rudolph said no charges have been filed.
The accident remains under investigation.
