For the past eight years, Germantown Elementary School has collected more cans of food for the Mid-South Food Bank than any other elementary school in the county. One of the secrets is getting everyone at the school involved.

"It has to do with leadership. It has to do with faculty. They have put this in their culture in terms of the school and every year they always have the ability to generate a lot of excitement," says David Stephens with the Mid-South Food Bank.

Last year alone, the Food Bank took in more than 12.6 million pounds of food. That's more than a million pounds a month.

A few cans from thousands of students make a huge difference. It does a lot more than help feed people. It teaches little kids that they can make a difference in people's lives.

"If we win that's fantastic and really that's a great goal for us. But to be able to give that generous donation to the Food Bank, we really want to be able to do that year after year," says Kids Kan Project Director Alyson Edwards.
