A grocery store is shut down for selling more than groceries.

The District Attorney and Memphis police shut down County Line Grocery on Tchulahoma Road after numerous complaints about illegal drug use, illegal drug sales and violence near the store.

Memphis police say they investigated the store during the past four months before shutting it down as a public nuisance on Friday. Neighboring business say the illegal drug activity went on for at least the last six years.

Police say they have answered 87 calls for service at County Line Grocery since June 2011, and the Organized Crime Unit conducted and documented nine probable cause buys at the location.

The District Attorney's office says undercover officers documented instances when management was aware of the illegal activities.

MPD made five drug-related arrests at the business. They say criminal offense reports occurring on the property include robbery, motor vehicle theft, vandalism, theft, aggravated assault, weapons violations, burglary and vandalism.
