A Cordova man was arrested and charged with aggravated assault after he shot his wife in the left shoulder early Tuesday morning in a reported domestic incident, a Shelby County Sheriff spokesman said.

The shooting took place at around 4 a.m. in the 1000 block of Links View East.

In a statement to deputies Charles Rice, 61, said he admitted to shooting his wife with a .38 caliber revolver in a domestic argument. His 59-year-old wife was taken to The MED in Memphis and is being treated for a non-critical gunshot wound in the collarbone.

Rice was arrested and taken to the Shelby County Jail in Downtown Memphis for processing.

This is the second reported incident in five days in the same Cordova neighborhood. Ridgeway High School teacher and coach Jimmy McClain, 49, was found deceased inside his Cordova home on Feb. 22.
