Teen gets 28 years in prison for Jonesboro slaying

JONESBORO, Ark. (AP) - A 17-year-old convicted of killing a man during a Jonesboro robbery has been sentenced to 28 years in prison.

The teenager was sentenced Friday after pleading guilty Monday to first-degree murder in the shooting death of Kenny Brown last July. Craighead County Circuit Court Judge Cindy Thyer delayed the sentencing so family members of both Brown and the defendant could be present.

The boy, whose name is being withheld because of his age, apologized to the victim's family.

The Jonesboro Sun reports the teen (http://is.gd/XCUnB1 ) went to an apartment armed with a handgun and that when Brown and his brother tried to disarm the teen and Brown was shot in the head. The teenager fled, but witnesses identified him by name and he was arrested the next day.
