Year-old death results in murder charge

ELIZABETHTON, Tenn. (AP) - Carter County Sheriff Chris Mathes says a man who claimed self-defense in a 2011 homicide inflicted his own wounds.

Mathes said the men fought after drinking heavily the night of Oct. 17, 2011.

Deputies found Goudy lying on the ground outside the home and Whittaker dead of gunshot wounds. Goudy had stab wounds in his upper thighs and a puncture wound to his abdomen. Mathes said Goudy had now admits stabbing himself.
