FBI gets information on cars stopped at Y-12

OAK RIDGE, Tenn. (AP) - Drivers who wander up to the security gates at the government Y-12 nuclear weapons plant are also on the FBI's radar.

The Knoxville News Sentinel (http://bit.ly/QpMLoJ ) obtained records under the Freedom of Information Act that show 229 vehicles were turned around at plant barricades in the six months ending March 31. The report concluded no one in the vehicles was identified as a "person of interest" by the FBI.

However, the report indicated information on the vehicles turned around at the barricades was forwarded to federal investigators.

The newspaper reported records show most of the unwanted visitors were not deemed security threats. However, a report for a period in 2010 noted that "persons of interest were appropriately referred to the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force."
