Nasty storms blamed for 1 death, make travel tough

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Christmas Day along the Gulf Coast was filled with severe thunderstorms that brought drenching rains, high winds and damaging tornadoes while the nation's midsection dealt with freezing rain, sleet and snow that made for a sloppy and sometimes dangerous trek for holiday travelers.

Reid among 4 NFL coaches sacked in firing frenzy

Less than 24 hours after the regular season ended, NFL firings began at a furious pace.

In a span of about 90 minutes before lunch Monday, coaches Andy Reid, Pat Shurmur, Romeo Crennel and Chan Gailey were let go by their teams after losing seasons. None of the moves were surprising, and more are expected.

Amusement park hopes for tax break under new law

ROSSVILLE, Ga. (AP) - A northwest Georgia amusement park hopes to open a new water park with a tax break under a new Georgia law.

The Chattanooga Times Free Press reports (http://bit.ly/TYpvBT) that the Lake Winnepesaukah Amusement Park hopes to break ground in January on the new five-acre water park just south of the Tennessee-Georgia line.

DOE: Uranium shipments to Nevada could start soon

OAK RIDGE, Tenn. (AP) - A U.S. Department of Energy official says stocks of radioactive uranium could start shipping from the Oak Ridge National Laboratory to Nevada in 2013.

Rutherford Co. jail trying to keep inmates warm

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (AP) - Rutherford County is hoping to keep the heat on for about 800 inmates at the jail after 1 of the facility's boilers broke.
