New judge appointed in Knoxville torture-slayings

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - A new judge will review the orders for new trials for three men convicted in the 2007 torture and slaying of a young Knoxville couple.

Miss. tax preparer agrees to injunction

ABERDEEN, Miss. (AP) - A federal court has permanently barred Cynthia H. Carter of Columbus from preparing federal tax returns for others.

Court documents show Carter consented to the order without admitting to the allegations against her. The order issuing the injunction was signed Wednesday by U.S. District Judge Sharion Aycock.

Tupelo man acquitted on child porn charges

ABERDEEN, Miss. (AP) - Steven Metcalf of Tupelo has been found not guilty of federal child pornography charges.

The Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal reports (http://bit.ly/Ru8jAN ) that a federal jury in Aberdeen returned the verdict Tuesday. The 47-year-old Metcalf went on trial Monday.
