Loss of accreditation affects football, others

STARKVILLE, Miss. (AP) - Athletics programs at both West and East Oktibbeha County high schools are now ineligible for out-of-conference play, including playoffs, because of the school district's recent accreditation withdrawal.

Man dies in weekend fire in Prentiss Co.

BOONEVILLE, Miss. (AP) - Authorities are awaiting a positive identification to be made before releasing the name of a person who died in a fire on Sunday.

Bankruptcy judge rules Memphis can take over Beale

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - A federal bankruptcy judge has ruled that the city of Memphis can take over the Beale Street Entertainment District from Performa Entertainment Real Estate Inc.

The city owns the entertainment district and Beale Street Development Corp. holds the lease. But that company has sublet management to Performa since 1982.

Suspect in Ark. stabbing found mentally unfit

FORT SMITH, Ark. (AP) - A Fort Smith man accused of stabbing his pregnant wife has been found mentally unfit to stand trial.

Sebastian County Circuit Court Judge James Cox signed an order Tuesday committing 34-year-old James Herring to the custody of the Department of Human Services for detention and treatment.
