Prisoner's letter reveals Augusta's Civil War past

AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) - A faded envelope recently discovered after 148 years is shedding new light on Augusta's role in holding prisoners from the American Civil War.

The Augusta Chronicle reports (http://bit.ly/15rwP) that its author, Sgt. William S. Marshall, was a young Indiana soldier captured near Rowe Gap, Tenn., on May 3, 1863.

Power still out for 13K in Arkansas after storm

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - About 11,000 homes and businesses remain without power several days after a snowstorm blasted Arkansas on Christmas Day.

Crews are working to restore power to the remaining people who were still in the dark Monday, but some may not see electricity return until Tuesday.

2 people arrested in fatal McDonald's robbery

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Memphis police have arrested two people suspected to be involved in a fatal robbery of a McDonald's fast food restaurant and are investigating the possibility that the group may have been involved in several other robberies in the Memphis area.

Man found death from gunshot wound in burned home

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - Jackson police tell WAPT TV (http://bit.ly/VexmY5 ) a man found inside a burning home was shot and killed.

Firefighters pulled a body out of the burning house Sunday afternoon.

Police say they have not been able to identify the victim.

Fire investigators have also ruled the fire as arson.
