Activities commemorate Battle of New Orleans

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - A number of free activities at The Hermitage will commemorate the 198th anniversary of the Battle of New Orleans on Tuesday.

The plantation on Nashville's east edge was the home of President Andrew Jackson, who made his mark as a military leader during the War of 1812.

Cake-cutting, new exhibit mark Elvis' birthday

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - It's Elvis Presley's 78th birthday, and Memphis-area dignitaries will join fans at a cake-cutting celebration at Graceland, the rock 'n' roll icon's longtime home.

A proclamation of Elvis Presley Day also will be part of Tuesday's ceremony remembering the birthday of "The King of Rock 'n' Roll" on Jan. 8, 1935.

Three people are in custody and being questioned after an arson took place Monday morning at the abandoned Countryview Mobile Home Park.

The Northaven mobile home park has been abandoned since the 2011 historic floods and has been targeted routinely by arsonists.
