Longtime civic leader Arnold Perl is resigning from the board of the Memphis-Shelby County Airport Authority, the Memphis Business Journal reported.

Perl has been chairman of the board since 1996.

He will abandon the remainder of his latest five-year term, which lasts through 2016.

Overnight and early morning rain and high winds that are part of a cold front have caused tough driving conditions, a slew of power outages and a confirmed tornado in Arkansas.

At one point Thursday morning nearly 6,000 MLGW customers in Shelby County, Tenn., were without power due to the high winds.

The Memphis Grizzlies have helped raise $20,000 for the family of fallen Memphis Police Officer Martoiya Lang.

According to the Grizzlies, fans attending the Wednesday match-up against the Milwaukee Bucks donated $10,000 at the doors. The Grizzlies and SunTrust each donated an additional $5,000.
