Officials announce plans for new state park

ERWIN, Tenn. (AP) - About 2,000 acres of wilderness in upper East Tennessee are slated to become the Rocky Fort State Park.

Gov. Bill Haslam and U.S. Sen. Lamar Alexander announced the plans on Tuesday.

The Knoxville News Sentinel reports (http://bit.ly/XZkwQd) the total Rocky Fork tract is 10,000 acres, with 8,000 acres to be managed by the U.S.

Hurley to be sentenced Dec. 13 for DUI fatality

PASCAGOULA, Miss. (AP) - A Hurley, Miss., man has pleaded guilty to driving while intoxicated when he struck and killed a motorcyclist in 2008.

Rene C. Levario entered the plea Monday to one count of felony DUI causing death. Levario will remain free on bond until his sentencing on Dec. 13 in Jackson County Circuit Court.

The Unified School Board voted last night to endorse the County-wide, half-cent sales tax increase on the November ballot with 14 of the 23 members supporting the measure.
